JEWELRY WIRE and Findings

Wire and Findings for Jewelry Making

Make your own jewelry with wire, findings and some simple tools.

Wire for jewelry making is usually either plated, Sterling Silver or 14 Gold Filled or Copper wire. There are so many choices and each has it's own advantanges.

Copper is a natural wire, not plated but will patina (change color) over time which is not necessarily a bad thing. Most copper changes to a deep rosey yellow color and is actually very pretty.  It can leave black rings on some people due to the contact with skin but that is easily solved by coating the area of wire that is in contact with your skin if it's something that bothers you.

Plated Wire is usually a copper core wire in wire like Parawire which is then coated with a color and then Silver plated on top of that. That type of plated wire is fun to work with, holds up pretty well over time and can add some extra color to your jewelry making projects. We carry the more natural colors right now-- the Antique Bronze, Silver, Gold, Champagne Gold and Rose Gold colors which are the more popular colors.

Sterling Silver wire and 14K Gold Filled wire are also nice choices but are more on the expensive side however they are beautiful to work with and make nice quality jewelry. Sterling Silver will tarnish so keep it in a plastic bag to help keep that from happening.  14K Gold filled does not tarnish much because it is coated with gold which does not tarnish.

Make your next project special with some fun wire and findings and some great unusual beads which you can find in our Handmade Lampwork Glass Beads section.
